Can technology help us achieve a sustainable future – Fuller’s metaphor of Earth as a spaceship

We are using the resources of the Earth unsustainably, and we suffer in turn from climate change and other pollution. We want to explore pathways to get out of that situation, illuminating what is possible. We believe that the only possible mode is to drive forward – using technology and organisation to eventually create a sustainable operating mode. Hesitating and stepping back will not solve problems, but will compound the mechanisms which brought is here. We need to keep moving, to learn along the way and create a dynamic stability while moving through the uncertainty and turbulences ahead.

Buckminster Fuller wrote a book in 1969, “Operating manual for spaceship Earth”, which title inspired the headline of this blog. Fuller writes about the transition into a sustainable use of the Earth’s resources through design, knowledge, invention. His vision guides this blog.
